The Biggest Online Slot Jackpots Ever Recorded
From a 25p spin to a €19.4 million payout: the record-breaking progressive jackpots that made headlines — and what they had in common.
Almost every record-breaking online slot win has one thing in common: a progressive jackpot that grew across thousands of casinos before one player hit it. Here are the payouts that set the benchmarks.
2015 — €17.9 million on a 25p spin
In October 2015, British soldier Jon Heywood won £13.2 million (about €17.9 million) on Microgaming's Mega Moolah at Betway. He had reportedly deposited just £30 and was betting 25p per spin. Guinness World Records lists it as the largest jackpot payout in an online slot game.
2018 — €18.9 million from a phone
Three years later, a player at Grand Mondial Casino won €18.9 million on Mega Moolah with a 75-cent bet on an Android smartphone — at the time reported as a new high for online slots.
2021 — a reported €19.4 million in Belgium
In April 2021, a player at Napoleon Sports & Casino in Belgium won more than €19.4 million on Mega Moolah. Microgaming described it as the largest online slot jackpot payout of all time. Guinness's own listing, however, still shows the 2015 win, so the "official" record depends on which source you follow.
What these wins have in common
- All three came from a networked progressive — a single pot fed by players at many casinos.
- The stakes were small. Progressive jackpots are usually available on any bet, though some games scale the chance with the stake.
- They are extreme outliers. For every life-changing jackpot, the pool was built from millions of ordinary spins.
